The French produce biofuel from algae fed with trash




In hexagon was first inaugurated global platform for producing fuel from algae cross. Plants, grown in an artificial basin, are fed with carbon dioxide from the fermentation of household waste.

Thierry Meunier, the scientific group, explained that algae proliferate are in a pool of water measuring 10 meters long and three meters wide. It has a depth of 50 centimeters. "Algae feed for five days with the carbon dioxide released from domestic waste and the liquid obtained is then converted into biofuel," said Thierry Meunier.


Surface platform will have a hectare


Construction of the platform, with an area of 200 square meters, which will soon spread on one hectare, cost 200,000 euros. Poitou-Charentes region contributed 50,000 euros.
